Hours before the ritual, a nameless ghoul would grant an interview with Hakos Pervandis with TV War and Greek Metal Hammer where they discussed Ghost’s rise to power from anonymity, maintaining their anonymity in a world with the internet, and that they’d begun recording demos for their next album.[3]
The crowd was entranced, singing along with Ritual and chanting their name:
“[...]Then we had the opportunity to enjoy the Ghost phenomenon, the band that managed to create a lot of noise around their name mainly because of the image they have. Their 'ceremony' started and having a very clear sound they gave an awesome show with their 70s rock meets NWOBE music. "Evil Pope" behind the microphone holding a censer in his hand won the impressions with his charismatic voice. Especially in "Ritual" there was a big mess and playing for the end "Here comes the Sun" by the Beatles, they came down from the stage in apotheosis from the people who kept chanting their name rhythmically.” -Kostas Avgouleas (via Microsoft translate)[4]

“Next in line were Ghost. That’s another band that doesn’t play doom metal, but made it to the billing maybe because of their image, their lyrics and the fuzz that’s been going around their name. But they were undoubtedly interesting and their opening was perfect. When the lights went out, we started listening to “Backwards Priests”, which is best known from the masked ball scene in Eyes Wide Shut, five black robed men took their places and last came out Papa Emeritus holding a censer. I can say that this was one of the most fitting openings I’ve ever seen. Their set was based on “Opus Eponymous”, another debut album. “Con Clavi Con Dio”, “Death Knell”, “Satan Prayer” and “Genesis” were some of the songs we heard. There was also a cover of “Here Comes The Sun” of the Beatles. The sound was the best and the show was very impressive. Ghost kept their stance throughout the set and didn’t communicate at all with the fans, apart from a “Thank you Athen” in the end. The last song was “Ritual”, the hit-song of the album, and the fans reacted with a sing-along. All in all, they surely are something different, but I still don’t think that their music is worth all this fuzz.” -Stella Papaspyropoulou[5]

“Sweden’s GHOST have gained already a lot of lovers but also a lot of haters. Possibly because of their strange image, that I basically adore, and also because they are accused of mimic’s of the style of MERCYFUL FATE. Call me crazy but I found their style and music somehow unique. The dark image of the band follows the satanic lyrical concept and to my eyes seems very interesting. From the reactions of the crowd many shared the same thought with me. Their occult stage show and the magnificent sound got the attention of everybody. The voice of Satan and in fact Papa Emeritus is one of the most cult figures I’ve ever seen onstage. They played for almost 50 minutes with the best parts of their debut “Opus Eponymous” and also their incredible cover on “Here Comes The Sun” from THE BEATLES! The band thanked the crowd for their warm reactions and promised to come back again…” -Giorgos Karagiannis[6]

“Having watched Ghost live once again, where they had not left me with very good impressions, as they had been presented without nerve and with mediocre sound, I did not expect anything special from this performance. I confess that I was wrong, as in Athens they were much better and the result aroused at least interest. The first thing you notice about this band is none other than its original and special stage presence, which, combined with the static of the members on stage, is part of their scenery and atmosphere. Their performance was good and the good and loud sound contributed to this. It goes without saying that, willingly or not, the setlist was based on material from their unique album, including the very good cover of "Here Comes The Sun" by The Beatles. Due to image there could not be any special contact with the audience, with the sole exception towards the end of the set, when Papa Emeritus thanked the crowd for their response. On the downside are definitely some pre-recorded backing vocals, which helped in a better sound result, but definitely in a live show what you want to see is the real ability of the band to perform their songs on stage. Beyond that though, this is a good performance from Ghost and rightly in the end they won the applause of the audience.” -Antonis Kondylis (via Microsoft Translate)[7]

Not everyone was wooed, but even the harshest critics couldn't deny the sound was good and the visuals were en pointe:
"Ghosts are nice to see, but not to hear. The best sound of the evening, impressive image and show, but all this carefully hides the gaps in their music. The highlight was the instrumental "Genesis" and the hit "Ritual". Fun look, but in my eyes the hype that surrounds them will never be justified." -The Casting Stone (via Microsoft translate)[8]
